in Computer Pools
The University provides general purpose computer pools for access by all students. These pools are also available for teaching. They can be booked through the school timetabling process or by using Syllabus Plus for ad hoc bookings.

Purpose of Computer Pools
The purpose of these facilities is to:

support student learning via formal booked class sessions using a range of software including common "core" applications (e.g. Office, web browser, email) as well as specialised course-related software |
- |
enable students to work on computer-based assignments and other course work outside booked classes |
- |
provide on-campus facilities for students to access on-line course materials and to access internet resources for study purposes |
- |
provide a platform to support the key communication and on-line business activities of the University via access to email and web-based facilities (including on-line enrolment) |
- |
provide basic printing facilities to support these activities |
- |
provide a reasonable level of access to high quality IT facilities across all campuses of the University and available to students and staff from all divisions and schools |
- |
support other University activities such as conferences, educational, prospective student and other community activities consistent with the University's mission (subject to licensing and legal requirements governing the University's use of software and network resources) |

Assistance and the IT Help Desk
For problems with pool hardware/software, contact the IT Help Desk on 25000. Please provide the PC name to the IT Help Desk for troubleshooting. The PC name can be found affixed to the PC or monitor in all computer pools.

Support for Students with Disabilities
Priority Access PCs in pools and computer barns
To support students with disabilities in the computer pools there is one PC in each Computing Pool and Computer Barn is labelled "Priority Access". This PC is available for use by all students but, subject to class bookings, students with a disability are entitled to priority of use.
Quick use e-mail and Internet PCs
In some locations a wheelchair-accessible PC is provided for short-term e-mail and web browsing with the same software (MS Outlook and Internet Explorer) as the "Walkup PCs". Information on locations is available on the Computers on Campus page.
Adaptive Technology Suites
Any student with a disability that makes it difficult to use the PCs in pools and barns can use the Adaptive Technology Suite on any of the main metropolitan campuses. There is an ATS in the Library at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes. Each has a PC with hardware, software and furniture to assist students with a range of disabilities.
The equipment in each ATS is reserved for students with disabilities. Students need to register with Learning Connection and book the room at the Library service desk before each use. Further information is available at Disability services and Adaptive Technology Suites.
