General Motors Holden Pty Ltd
DescriptionGeneral Motors Holden was originally a coach building firm in Adelaide, then became a body building firm called Holden Motor Body Builders and after amalgamation with the American car firm, General Motors, became General Motors Holden or GMH. Records include plans for the first body building works of Holden and later new building called Plant 11 at Woodville, South Australia, built in 1943. This building housed the conveyor belt line for bodybuilding of GMH cars. It was called 'The Body Shop'. In the late 1950's the first 2 hydraulic robots used for industry in South Australia were housed here. GMH outgrew the site at Woodville and moved to Elizabeth.
